Setup Salesforce for Partner Operations
I created this simple step-by-step guide with screenshots for setting up Salesforce Lightning for free and without external tools, specifically for Saas partner professionals to track and measure the partners' business impact.
I originally created this guide for myself as I have been part of a Saas startup where there was no budget to hire a Rev Ops person, let aside a Partner Ops! So I had to figure out how to get Salesforce up and running with the basics to record, track, measure, and report leads and opportunities generated and influenced by Partners.
I have also included a practical PowerPoint that can be customized and used to train the sales team internally on how to collaborate in Salesforce with the partner managers in the organization.
The guide includes how to:
- Create Partner Accounts (that are different from the Customer accounts on Salesforce);
- Add Partner related fields to Leads
- Add Partner related fields to Opportunities
- Map custom objects so that they are carried over from Leads to Opportunities
- Add "Partner" as one a Lead source
- Update previously created Accounts into Partner Accounts, at scale
- Present in a simple way the process to the Sales Team to foster internal collaboration and understanding
All of the above simply by configuring the out-of-the-box version of Salesforce Lightning, in a way that is easy to scale as your Company scales operations and hopefully gets that Partner Ops resource onboard.
Hopefully, this resource can help other partner professionals avoid spending weeks and months (like it took me) to figure out the best way to get their job done professionally with Salesforce CRM.
